5/5/2009 Challenging Weekend for WBR at Barber Every team has their share of good weekends and bad weekends. Wyman Bros. Racing has just returned from Birmingham, AL for the Honda Superbike Classic at Barber Motorsports Park. Kyle had his share of ups and downs throughout the weekend.
Saturday morning during qualifying, a full wet race surface called for a declared "wet session" on the circuit. Standing water in the final corner caused Kyle to go down, with the bike in a ghost ride b-line for the concrete pit wall. Shortly after the incident, the session was red-flagged and the race grid would be determined by Friday's afternoon practice session. Wyman was able to tech the backup machine and get ready for the Sunday morning warmup on a bike yet to be ridden.
Friday's warmup brought more trouble, as the backup bike showed engine problems partway through the session. After retiring the session, it was then a scramble to swap motors from the wrecked bike for the 3pm race. "I can't thank my Dad and Don Finelli enough for thrashing like they did on Sunday. We were in a hurry trying to beat the tornado warnings that were coming in, and I'm glad we were able to pull it together and make the race." Once the weather passed, the AMA called for a Supersport warmup session at 2:50 pm, and a shortened race to 12 laps would soon follow.
Gridded 13th, Kyle would pull together a 14th place finish after a long wet race. "It was really my first time in the wet. I've ridden in the rain before, but never with full rain tires or in a race situation, so I'm happy with my finish and the opportunity to gain some experience before the next race at Road America. It always seems to rain there, so I'll be ready if the situation arises. Again I have to thank Don and my Dad for my results this weekend and all of my sponsors for their continued support."
