WBR at Virginia International Raceway Alton, VA was the next stop for Kyle, Travis and Cody this past weekend for the first round of the WERA Sportsman Series in the northeast. With temperatures plummeting into the 20’s overnight it was a rather cool, but dry, race weekend for the three brothers. Kyle, searching for some quality track time before the next AMA national at Road Atlanta, went to VIR with a relaxed state of mind while the younger of the two went to keep shaking off some of the winter cobwebs. Travis, 2008 Red Bull Rookie, spent this weekend on only his second outing on his GSX-R600 while Cody continued his progress on the RS125 machines. The cold nights offered a frigid track for the morning practice sessions which took until after lunch time to get up to comfortable temperature. Saturday brought the 16-lap solo races to the schedule where Kyle and Travis competed on their 600cc machines in the Mediumweight Expert class. Gridded up in the rear of the pack, Kyle was able to reach 6th place and Travis was able to reach 21st before a red flag due to a large accident brought the race to an end after only 3 laps.
Sunday’s schedule called for a number of 6 lap sprint races on a slightly warmer day. Kyle competed in the B Superbike and C Superstock Expert races aboard his YZF-R6 and came away with an 8th place finish after starting on row 21 of the second wave in B Superbike. The C Superstock Expert race included Kyle and Travis together as they came away with 6th and 22nd place finishes, respectively. Cody had a tough break in the 125GP class, overheating his Honda 125 after 4 laps of the sprint, settling with a DNF.
Overall, the weekend was a success considering the goals set by the boys going into the race. They were able to make some progress and get some more seat time on the bikes as they prepare for a long season! Check back for updates and be sure to visit the sponsor pages!
